Political parties salute President

Zimbabwean political parties, the Zimbabwe National Liberation Supporters Association (Zinalisa) and beneficiaries of the Presidential scholarship scheme have congratulated President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for emerging victorious in the recently held harmonised elections. Addressing a Press conference in Harare on Tuesday, Zimbabwe Development Party (ZDP) president Mr Kisinoti Mukwazhe said it was vital for Zimbabweans to defend the country regardless of political affiliations.
“Our party is celebrating the recently held elections which were peaceful, free, fair and credible. ZDP also celebrates victory over imperialism and neo-colonialism.
“ZDP extends gratitude for the job well done by the police, army and other security agencies in maintaining peace and stability before, during and after the elections. We commend observers for conducting their job and monitoring our elections without pre-conceived judgements and we do not think the challenges faced influenced the outcome of the results,” he said.
Mr Mukwazhi condemned all parties who allege the elections were rigged and urged the parties to be honest, progressive and mature to accept the results. He criticised MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai for recent statements he made to the media and said he lost because of his westernised policies.
Good People’s Movement Party president Dr Gadzamoyo Dewah also endorsed President Mugabe and said his victory would ensure the restoration of the national heritage and its ethos.
“The MDC-T has nothing to offer except rhetoric promises which are more of unfounded dreams. We need not talk of failures, they showed in the GNU. The election was done in a transparent, peaceful and tranquil environment that accords the election all the credibility it deserves,” he said.
Zinalisa president Cde Collins Chipare said the victory by the President and the revolutionary party clearly demonstrated the confidence Zimbabweans have in his leadership. “Our detractors are flabbergasted, they thought that Zimbabweans have very short memories, and have forgotten about the bitter armed struggle they fought to liberate themselves,” he said.
“Congratulations to President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for winning the elections. The elections were peaceful and credible and we hope that the unjustified sanctions will be lifted immediately.”
Beneficiaries of the Presidential scholarship around the country yesterday expressed joy over President Mugabe’s thumping victory.
Many of the students who are studying in South African universities breathed a huge sigh of relief following President Mugabe’s victory. The victory eased their anxiety as many feared the MDC-T would scrap the scholarship programme.
